Diversity Grant Fund
At the Southern California Food Allergy Institute, we believe in making real and tangible actions in the fight against injustices in our society. In June 2020, Dr. Inderpal Randhawa, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of TPIRC and the Southern California Food Allergy Institute, has seeded a new grant program with a gift of $50,000 that will help broaden access to the Southern California Food Allergy Institute’s TIP™ program to children in the Black community. With the support of the community, the fund now stands at over $100,000.
Currently, out of Southern California Food Allergy Institute’s nearly 10,000 patients, only 1 to 2 percent are Black, while several nationwide studies have shown that Black children are 4 to 5 times as likely to have, and 3 to 4 as likely to die from food anaphylaxis. Helping children, regardless of race or color, achieve food freedom through our Tolerance Induction Program™ (TIP) is essential to our mission.
Diversity Grant Fund Guidelines for Financial Assistance
What is the Diversity Grant Fund?
Our Diversity Grant Fund seeks to strengthen access to health care for Black children and their families. We improve the lives of these patients by helping to close the gap in severe food allergies care through our Tolerance Induction Program™ (TIP).
How We Work
We use effective, innovative approaches to the treatment of rare diseases like food anaphylaxis to empower families, build partnerships, and expand the capacity of Southern California Food Allergy Institute to create real, lasting change.
Open Grants
Through seed funding by TPIRC and Southern California Food Allergy Institute Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Inderpal Randhawa, and our generous supporters we have raised enough to fund our Diversity Grant Fund. This fund is designed to provide financial assistance to Black families with children suffering from food anaphylaxis.
Eligibility
- Have a child under 18 years who suffer from severe food allergies*
- The child is of Black heritage
- Financial assistance to treat your child’s food allergies
- Resident of the United States
- Able to travel to TPIRC’s Southern California Food Allergy Institute Clinic in Long Beach, CA regularly for appointments
- Able to commit to the length of treatment in TIP™ (duration varies and is approximately 18-24 months)**
- Open to current, waitlist, and future patients
*Acceptance of the grant is also contingent on the patient medically cleared as a candidate for Tolerance Induction Program™.
**Length of treatment is determined after a treatment plan has been developed.
Application Deadlines
We will be reviewing applications on a quarterly basis and until the grant’s funds are exhausted.

Funding Levels
Grants will be $1,000 per child and will be deducted from their Food Allergy Institute account. Funds will not be distributed directly to the patient’s family. Funds will be distributed on a yearly basis for up to two years per patient. Applicants may reapply every two years for consideration.

Active Military Grant Fund
During the season of reflecting on what we are most thankful for, it is important to thank those who protect and serve our nation. At the Southern California Food Allergy Institute, we are choosing to give thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, our men, and women of service. This giving Season, Dr. Inderpal Randhawa, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of TPIRC and the Southern California Food Allergy Institute, has made it a point to thank and give back to our active military families going through our Tolerance Induction Program™ (TIP).
The Southern California Food Allergy Institute will be awarding grants to families that have an active military parent or legal guardian. We believe giving back to those who serve to protect our freedom deserves to be recognized. Helping the children of active military families achieve food freedom through our Tolerance Induction Program™ (TIP) is a way we are giving back to families that gave us everything.
Active Military Grant Guidelines for Financial Assistance
What is the Active Military Grant?
Our Active Military Grant seeks to give thanks to those who have served our country and their families. We are thanking these families by offering financial assistance in their child’s treatment of severe food allergies through our Tolerance Induction Program™ (TIP).

- The child has a parent/caretaker that is an active military member
- Verification of active service: Common Access Card (CAC)
- Financial assistance to treat your child’s food allergies
- A resident of the United States
- Able to travel to TPIRC’s Southern California Food Allergy Institute Clinic in Long Beach, CA regularly for appointments
- Able to commit to the length of treatment in TIP™ (duration varies and is approximately 18-24 months)**
- Open to current, waitlist, and future patients
